Activities
Korea Chapter was inaugurated in October 2013 and now has about 50 members including LG Electronics, SK Telecom, Samsung SDS, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and National Information Society Agency.

Member activities so far include:

  • 2e Consulting has started rewriting their IT service engagement methods using the Essence Kernel and translating the Essence book authored by Ivar Jacobson et al. into Korean.

  • uEngine Solutions has started developing a tool called Essencia to orchestrate the Essence Kernel-based methods into a project-specific software engineering process and support the project team with the process-based workflow automation, the project progress dashboard, and social collaboration among the team members.

  • The Korean government is supporting KAIST research on Essence over 2013-2015.

  • The Korea Software Technology Association is delivering a training course for industry practitioners on software engineering that includes the learning of Essence.

  • Prof. June Sung Park at KAIST has participated in the Essence 1.0 Finalization Task Force in OMG.

  • Park presented papers on Essence in the Symposiums of Korea Society of Standards and Standardization held in November 2013 and May 2014 in Seoul, Korea.

  • Park, together with Paul McMahon and Barry Myburgh, have written a paper to compare the native Scrum with the Essence-powered Scrum as an example of using the Essence Kernel to describe software engineering practices and to demonstrate the values created by doing so.
